Musa Bihi Abdi, Kulmiye’s Chairman and Presidential Candidate, sent a stern message to opposition leaders on Wednesday during a Kulmiye party event welcoming youth members from Awdal.
During his speech at the event, Abdi accused Somaliland’s main opposition party, Waddani, of secretly promoting an election delay and also accused UCID leaders of teaming up with Waddani in the past to prevent him from winning the election.
Somaliland’s Presidential Election was originally supposed to be held last month – but was postponed earlier this year after UCID and Waddani proposed a six-month extension to focus on national drought relief efforts.
“Waddani secretly wants the elections to be delayed, while Kulmiye and the Government remain committed to holding elections on time. The government has no reason to delay elections as President Silanyo is not running for re-election” Abdi said.
“Waddani and UCID leaders teamed up together to prevent the election from being held because they knew I would win,” said Abdi.
Abdi warned opposition leaders that his party would not accept any renewed calls from the oppositions to delay elections.
“We will not accept any calls from the opposition to postpone elections this time around” Abdi declared.
Many Somalilanders fear that the election might be postponed if the country does not get enough rainfall come July.
