The Republic of Somaliland Government’s Statement on the situation in Sool Region.

Saturday August 26, 2023, Hargeisa, Somaliland –– In an emergency meeting held at the Presidency earlier today, President Muse Bihi Abdi met with the Wadani party and other political stakeholders to discuss the situation in Sool region. The meeting concluded with a mutual agreement between all parties to prioritize the unity of the nation and to support the National Forces in their efforts of defending the Republic of Somaliland.

“Strong measures will be taken regarding what happened yesterday including a thorough investigation, but I would like to reassure the citizens of Somaliland that all public and private services in the country will not be affected,” said President Bihi. “I would like to thank the Wadani and UCID parties, as well as other political stakeholders, for their firm stance in support of their nation during this time. We have just concluded an emergency meeting, and we have unanimously agreed to unite against all enemies and protect the safety and security of our citizens.” added the President.

During the press conference the President also reassured the international community that “The Somaliland Government will continue to safeguard against all forces of insecurity and terrorism in its regional waters and territory.”  He concluded by saying “Together, we can build a strong Somaliland for the prosperity of our people and the whole region.”
