Ethiopia Stresses Need for Additional Support to Refugees in Its Territory Following Conflict in Somaliland

Ethiopian Permanent Mission in Geneva stressed the need for additional support for the nearly 100,000 refugees which have taken shelter in Ethiopia, having fled the recent conflict in Somaliland.

Ambassador Tsegab Kebebew, Permanent Representative of Ethiopia to the UN Office at Geneva attended United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) 86th Standing Committee meeting, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Speaking at the occasion, the permanent representative urged all concerned global bodies to maximize assistance to the refugees.

Due to conflict in Laas Caanod district of Somaliland, an increasing number of people have crossed the border into the Dollo zone of Somali region, Ethiopia.

This increasing number of people is a new record of asylum seekers that entered into Ethiopia from Somaliland, it was indicated.

Accordingly, UNHCR and Refugees and Returnees Service (RRS) has called on the international community on Tuesday to provide food, shelter, medical and other social support urgently.
