The State has defended its stance on aligning with the Gulf countries that have sanctioned Qatar over allegations of supporting terrorism, led by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The government asserts that the decision is well in line with the political interests of this country.
The sentiments were relayed by Presidential Spokesman Eng. Hussein A. Ege who was speaking on the President’s trip to the United Arab Emirates, for a private journey.
H.E. Ahmed Mohammed Mohamud Silanyo’s tour on Friday to the UAE comes shortly after the state took the stance on the GCC tug-of war which is formidably led by the Saudis hence sided by Arab countries against Qatar.
“Somaliland is a sovereign state which has the integrity of making her decisions as it deems fit in her political or economically associated interests”, said the Presidential Spokesman.
He noted that the Saudi Arabians are the importers of the main bulk of Somaliland livestock and the bilateral relations between the two has been in place for ages.
He pointed out that the stance does not mean that Somaliland is at logger heads with the Qatarese in any way.
“Somaliland makes decision based on her bilateral and development relations and interests hence have good relations with Arabian countries”, said the spokesman, adding that, the government led by the Head of State prioritizes progress for her people, hence makes decisions based on them.
He revealed that the President’s visit to the UAE was a private one.
