A high-level delegation led by the Republic of Somaliland Minister for the Presidency, H. E. Mohamoud Hashi Abdi, held a fruitful meeting with the High Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Sabah Al Jebel Al-Sabah, during which the Somaliland delegation briefed the Emir on the worsening drought situation in Somaliland.
In a brief statement Minister Hashi posted on his official Facebook page, last evening, the minister stated that the Emir was moved by the situation, accepting that an urgent intervention was in line.
“We delivered an official message from His Excellency the president of the Republic of Somaliland, Ahmed Mohamed Mohamoud ‘Siilaanyo”, on the urgency of timely relief for the drought-affected populations in Somaliland, and the Emir gracefully acknowledged the request,” Minister Hashi stated.
His Highness the Emir, Minister Hashi added, promised that Kuwait will respond to the situation as it required.
The Somaliland delegation is expected to wrap up other high-level, follow-up meetings with Kuwaiti officials on the core issue, the drought, and other matters of monumental import to the two countries.
The high caliber delegation from Somaliland include, besides Minister Hashi, His Excellency the Minister for Planning & Development Coordination, Mohamed Ibrahim Adan ‘Qabyotire’, His Excellency the Minister for Health, Dr. Suleiman Isse ‘Haglotosiye’, the National Endowments (Zakah) Registry Chairman, and Sheikh Dr. Said Mohamed Farah Jire.
Kuwait has proven a steadfast friend to the people of Somaliland as it has funded the reconstruction and modernization of the Hargeisa and Berbera airport terminals and runways. Kuwait has also played an honorable role in coming to the aid of drought victims in the western regions of Somaliland a year earlier.
