Somaliland Minister of Finance Hon Zam Zam Abdi Aden today appeared before the parliamentary Standing committee on finance.
The chairman of the parliamentary standing committee on Finance Hon Omer Ahmed Sanweyne MP speaking to reporters moments after emerging from the closed door session said, “The purpose we summoned the minister of Finance and her team today was to raise general questions of a financial and budgetary nature, being co-ordinated by the Ministry of Finance (Department of Expenditure) in consultation with the departments concerned.
“Our work is to examine the appropriation accounts, the annual financial accounts and such other accounts laid before the House as the committee may think fit”, he said.
Hon Omer Ahmed Sanweyne MP further stated, “Before the budget gets parliamentary approval, it goes through many process suggesting alternative policies and examining whether the final requirements are consistent with the existing policy.
The chairman of the parliamentary standing subcommittee on Finance concluded by stating, “All in all we seem to have reached a consensus on many, fronts thanks to the cooperation of the Finance Minister and her team.
He added that the part of his committee review it and in the long run table it in the parliament for further general debate as per constitution.
Minister of Finance Hon Zam Zam Abdi Aden briefing reporters said, “During our meeting today members the parliamentary standing committee on Finance was a Q&A session in which they asked general questions of a financial and budgetary nature, and sometimes the required in-depth information regarding some areas be it those co-ordinated by the Ministry of Finance or the various ministries.
“Our meeting with the committee was fruitful considering that we had availed further information the parliamentary probe needed”, She said.
