The second Somaliland parliamentarian has today formally announced his bid to contest the presidential candidate of ruling Kumiye party which is expected to commence on 10th of Nov. 2015.
Kulmiye’s elections are only three months away and the battle to become the party’s next presidential candidate is already in full swing.
Incumbent president is yet to announce his intention of giving up politics or contesting the forthcoming elections within the party.
The chairman of the party, Musa Bihi Abdi, Foreign Affairs Minister, Mohamed Bihi Yonis, former Finance minister, Abdiasis Mohamed Samale are the leading contenders.
It was just a couple of days ago when the party has fixed a date for holding the central council’s congress which elects the presidential candidate of the party.
The battle for the presidency is far from being a two-horse race where many more candidates have to announce their intention for the days to come.
The announcement of Somaliland parliamentarian has made the race an open ended which means many more candidates are yet to confirm their political ambition.
An MP by the name of Kijandhe has thrown his hat into the ring and decided to be a presidential contender.
Delegates who will elect the party’s next presidential contender will be drawn from all regions, districts and tribes from Somaliland.
Somaliland embraced the ideology of multi party politics thanks to the former deceased president of Somaliland, the father of the nation, Mohamed Haji Ibrahim Egal who introduced the system to Somaliland so that the country moves from clan politics to democracy which the the rule of the majority.
