Somaliland: Government to Open Direct Talks with Khatumo Militia After Ramadan

Somaliland authorities have for the first time revealed the possibility of opening direct talks with the separatist Khatumo militia.

The first deputy speaker of Somaliland national assembly Hon Baashe Mohamed Farah speaking to reporters in the town of Las Anod in Sool region revealed that the separatist Khatumo militia have agreed to open talks with the government of Somaliland after the end of the holy month of Ramadan.

“We shall start direct talks after the EID UL FITR festivities , as you’re well aware off the Somaliland government had previously extended an olive branch to our brothers “Khatumo” and they have agreed to our call to come to the table for talks”, Hon Bashe said.

The first deputy speaker added, “Development and prosperity in Sool region can be achieved only through peaceful means not the barrel of a gun, that’s why I urge you to embrace peace at all times.

Hon Bashe Mohamed Farah further urged residents of Las Anod to participate in the national identification and voter’s registration process, so that we gain full representation in the government.
