Deputy President Honorable Abdirahman Sayli’i on Wednesday has attended the Women Council Elections Meeting which kicked off in Hargeisa.
The mission behind the meeting was to support Somaliland’s women candidates in the upcoming elections.
Women candidates and officials shed light some of the pressing hurdles that female candidates are confronted with.
They also reiterated the role of women as they are a vehicle for the country’s development.
The Deputy Somaliland President said that the meeting is aimed at empowering women to participate in politics particularly in the upcoming polls.
He urged that they have to face with the favorable candidates who are vying for the parliament and local council polls in Somaliland.
He stressed that the government is making a lot of effort so that women to take part in politics and decision making process of the country.
The government proposed woman quota to the parliament although it was later rejected by the lawmakers.
