Somalia: begs Saudi Arabia to stop Somaliland-UAE military base deal

 In his first official trip as President, Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo asked Saudi King Salman Abdulaziz to convince the United Arab Emirates to cancel their plans of opening a military base in the Republic of Somaliland.

According to Riyadh Post, a concerned Farmaajo pleaded with the King to help him squash the deal between the Republic of Somaliland and the United Arab Emirates.

It is not known whether Saudi Araba accepted Farmaajo’s request.

Saudi Arabia is currently leading a military coalition of Sunni Muslim nations battling against Shia insurgents in Yemen.

Both houses of the Republic of Somaliland’s parliament voted in favour of granting the UAE permission to build a military base in the country on February 12th.
