In a glitzy ceremony held at Maansoor hotel, the national judicial committee awarded appreciation certificates to the incumbent president of Somaliland H.E. Ahmed Mohammed Mohamoud Silanyo, vice president H.E. Abdirahman Abdillahi Ismail, Justice Minister Hon Ahmed Adarre the police commander Brig.Gen. Abdillahi Fadal Iman, the vice commanding officer of Custodial Corps, Gen. Ali Omar, the Attorney General Hassan Ahmed, judges, jury, the International institutions currently working with Somaliland Judiciary Committee like UNDP for their rigid support to the Judicial Reforms throughout Somaliland. The ceremony which attracted many high ranking officials and dignitaries from local NGOs like SONSAF has been spurred by all those who played a great role in the ongoing reforms on judicial system.

Foremost, the coordinator of mobile courts Sharma’arke Yusuf Faarah explained the main purpose behind the cermony and said, “Our main objective of organizing this glitzy ceremony is to conclude a 3-day workshop and case management of analyzing and scrutinizing mobile courts and their positive advantages to the people of Somaliland. Mobile Courts have become an alluringly attained goal. Primarily, people of remote areas had not any access to Supreme Court for many reasons. In content, Mobile Courts have the slogan of “access to justice” – that is all Somalilanders should be an area of reach of Supreme Court. Expert judges will pay visit to the remote areas where they later listen to the people and jot down notes.”

Amazingly, the participants watched a documentary film talking about the tangible reforms reached by Somaliland Judicial System. The film demonstrated the trustworthiness of Somalilanders to the courts of Somaliland and how things come into prospective. The film also shows the smooth flow of work and the centralization process in the District, Appeal, Regional and Supreme Courts short after the appointment of Professor Adam Haji Ali as Somaliland’s Chief of Justice.

Similarly, the Chief of Justice of Somaliland Prof Adam Haji Ali has stated the indispensability of justice to human being. “Justice is the soul and heart of all people. Without justice no nation is a nation; no life exists without justice and equality.” The chief of justice reiterated the need to ameliorate the judicial system in Somaliland.

 

Avowing the so-far reached reforms, the Chief of Justice said, “There have been major reforms on the judicial system of Somaliland. Verily, mobile courts have numerous advantages, and we need to further spread it all over the country. We have the motto “access to justice”. It is our responsibilty to rapidly and effectively perform our duties in the most appropriate way, hence improving our people’s trustworthiness. We are now reaching our people who are in dire need of Supreme Court but beyond reach.”

On the other hand, the Chief of Justice thanked all judges of district, regional and appeal courts, Attorney General and the Judicial Commission as well for their tireless efforts and dedications. He also expressed his sincere gratitute to the judges currently carrying on mobile court operations. Lastly, the president of the Supreme of the Court lauded the citizens of Somaliland for their outstanding role.

In his remarks, the Justice Minister Hon Ahmed Adarre has lauded the current judicial sytem and the judiciary commission as well for doubling the strive to hastening the daily tasks done by the courts in general and the Supreme Court in particular. “Short after the appointment of Professor Adam Haji Ali for the Chief Justice, we have seen dramatic reforms. I congratulate him and his collaborative team on getting such great trustworthiness from their nation.”

Somaliland’s Attorney General Hassan Ahmed who also spoke at the venue remarked the vitality of getting justice for man. The Attorney General also stated that his office has had excellence collaboration with the Supreme Court and the Judicial System of Somaliland in general. In addition, the Attorney General aso spurred the dedicated team and commissioners who are making an enticing reform on the judicial system of Somaliland.

Brig. Abdillahi Fadal Iman, Somaliland’s police commander, has also lauded the judicial system of Somaliland and the continuous reforms. “We have an excellent collaboration with the judiciary. The police and courts are in line and work together. We, as police officers, believe that we build justice from the base and support till it is growing further,” said Somaliland’s police commander, Brigade Abdillahi Fadal Iman.

Also speaking at the ceremony, the vice president of Somaliland H.E. Abdirahman Abdillahi Sayli reiterated the priority of justice to human being. The vice president pointed out that his government is in pursuit of improving the judiciary by selecting the most effective and talented people. Hon. Sayli similarly thanked the judiciary for their unwavering determination and commitment. “The government of Somaliland is strongly supporting the vivid reforms made by the judicial system of Somaliland. We believe that injustice and inequality are the worst traits that cause chaos, embezzlement, corruption and dreadful brawlings. To avoid this, Somaliland government has appointed Professor Adam Haji Ali who is profoundly expert in justice. I appreciate the wonderful achievements attained by the Supreme Court Chief of Justice, the Attorney General and the team of judiciary as whole.
