His Excellency the President of the Republic of Somaliland, Ahmed Mohamed Mohamoud “Siilaanyo”, put the first shovelful of tar and gravel on construction and rehabilitation work to start on a 78-km stretch of road between Hamas, Berbera district of Sahil, and Hargeisa Tuesday.
The cost of this initiative was going to be paid for on a Somaliland Development Fund (SDF) check, according to the Planning Minister Ali Hussein Ismail “Shoombe”.
The President said his government would be eternally remembered for starting and finishing developmental schemes that would outlast his and many a term to follow.
“I pray to God,” he said “that we succeed in our endeavour, and especially as they pertain to the development, construction and reconstruction of infrastructure that plays a pivotal role in the nation’s economic growth”.
The road is being rehabilitated in anticipation of a heavier traffic than it carries now as the Somaliland-DP World Berbera Port expansion takes off in the future with its Ethiopian trade connection.
The President’s trip to Hamas, today, only about fifty kilometres from Berbera where residents took part in the disruptive demonstrations of Sheikh and Koita, yesterday, it has been observed, was a practical message to the public that only development mattered to him and his government.
His Excellency was accompanied on this trip, besides the SRA and the media, by the Ministers of Presidency, Mohamoud Hashi Abdi, Public Works, Ali M Hassan ‘Marrehan”, Planning, Ali Hussein “Shoombe”, Interior, Ali Waran’adde, Ruling Party Chairman, Musa Behi, Vice Minister Ali Mohamed Elmi, Berbera Port CEO Ali Hor-Hor, Sahil Governor, Jama Yussuf, and Berbera Mayor, Abdishakur Iddin.
