Somaliland Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Relations Dr. Sa’ad Ali Shire joined the chorus of world’s democratically elected political leaders across the globe who reacted in the aftermath of the failed military coup in Turkey, as he condemned the failed military coup in Turkey as ‘undemocratic’.
More than 2,800 rebels have been detained and at least killed 250 after the Turkish army attempted an uprising against President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s government.
Some 104 plotters were killed after a coup attempt to bring down the Turkish government, while 160 people – at least 41 police officers and 47 civilians – fell as ‘martyrs’.
Somaliland Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Relations Dr. Sa’ad Ali Shire says he is to underline a support for Turkey’s ‘democratic elected government and institutions’ after an overnight coup attempt by some factions of the military.
“Military Coup plotters have attempted to bring down the elected president and government of Turkey who were elected by its people democratically. We are condemning such attempt and we are standing by government,” said Dr. Shire.
Dr. Sa’ad noted that the President is safe and that the failed coup attempt didn’t have any effects on President Ahmed Mohamoud Silanyo and his wife MS. Amina Mahmoud Jirdeh (Amina-waris) who were in a private visit to Turkey. The President and the First Lady concluded their visit and returned to the country on Tuesday afternoon.
‘We are praying for those people who lost their lives and for the many others who have been injured during the failed attempted coup,’ Sa’ad Ali Shire told reporters in Hargeisa ‘The coup attempt failed and now things are under control by the government of Turkey.’
Somaliland citizens have been closely following to the last Friday’s failed coup attempt in Turkey, whereas thousands of Somalilanders have posted ‘the image of President Erdogan’ and Turkey Flags as well to their FACEBOOK profile pictures in showing their support for the democratically elected President and Turkey government as well showing that they were against the failed attempted coup done by some factions of the military.
