“We wish citizens of Somaliland successful commemorations on 18th May” says Ethiopian consul general in Hargeisa Brigadier Gen Berhe Tesfaye.
The only country to maintain a full diplomatic mission in Hargeisa has also become the first to extend Independence Day congratulations.
According to a statement released by the resident Ethiopian diplomatic Envoy to Somaliland Brigadier General Berhe Tesfaye, the Federal government and people of Ethiopia stand shoulder to shoulder with Somalilanders during commemoration of the 25th anniversary of independence to be held on the 18th May 2016.
“On behalf of the federal government and people of Ethiopia I hereby extend congratulations to the government and people of Somaliland on the occasion of Independence Day commemorations” stated Gen. Tesfaye
The Hargeisa based consul general also hoped that Somalilanders celebrating 25 years of self-rule shall ultimately achieved their dreams more so as pertains to total freedom fry any form of subjugation an that of international recognition of their country as a sovereign nation.
Somaliland a former British protectorate withdrew in 1991 from its voluntary Union of the 1960 with Somalia the former Italian colony to its South.
While Somaliland remains unrecognized internationally as a sovereign nation thus denied protocols of bi-lateral relations Neighbouring Ethiopia has been a good and sympathetic friend with not only the only fully functional and resident diplomatic mission but partner in Security, trade, cross-border movement among many Commemorations are completed and shall be held in major regional towns of Somaliland with main activities in the capital Hargeisa while citizens in the diaspora shall undertake similar in major capitals of the world.
