The governing party Kulmiye has expelled the first and the second vice chairmen Hon.Mohammed Haji Hassan Wabeye and Hon. Abdirahman Mohammed Talyane for disrespecting the party constitution. Speaking to BBC Somali Service journalist Ahmed Saeed Ige the party Secretary General, Mr.Hassan Saeed confirmed that the duo have been ousted from their posts after they joined other rebel members of the Kulmiye Coalition for Democracy a cartel of former ministers and top party officials who had opposed the election of the incumbent Chairman Mr. Musa Bihi Abdi.
The secretary general said that the renegade officials had contravened article 16 of the party constitution, which vividly states that a member could be banished from the party if he/she dies, resigns or is sentenced to serve a prison term, further to elaborating that article 14 states that a member can be removed if he goes against the wishes of the executive council.
The two disqualified vice chairmen also represent Kulmiye in parliament as they are elected officials, when journalist Ahmed Saeed Ige inquired about the fate of the dissidents in the house of representatives the secretary general of Kulmiye said “They can either defect to the opposition parties UCID and WADANI or they may continue as Kulmiye parliamentarians but they will have nothing to do with the party affairs.
However, when BBC Somali Service contacted Hon. Wabeye and Abdirahman Talyane they said they can only be ousted by the executive committee through an election calling the sacking empty rhetoric.
