A high level delegation headed by Egypt’s minister in charge for African affairs and accompanied by ambassadors based in East Africa arrived in Hargeisa yesterday on official working visit.
Egyptian ambassadors to Djibouti, Ethiopia and Kenya are with the minister over the visit to Somaliland.
The visit was prompted after Egyptian government heard that Somaliland and Ethiopia penned an international agreement paving the way for the 90 million population of land locked Ethiopia has decided to increase its use of Berbera port on import and export goods.
Ethiopia and Egypt have disagreements over the Nile River water which sparked much enmity between the two countries.
The Egyptian government intends to have direct diplomatic ties with Somaliland in order to have a political influence in the region.
