The National Electoral Commission and the heads of the three official political Parties on Thursday pledged to abide by the Electoral Code of Conduct agreement once the voters registration process begins this under the auspices of the Academy of peace and development (APD) at a ceremony held in Hargeisa.
Hon Mohamed Farah Hersi , the director of the Academy of peace and development (APD)speaking moments after the signing ceremony said, “The process of voters registration shall determine our sovereignty and also the foundations for the holding a free and fair Presidential and Parliamentary elections in 2017 but most importantly a peacefully.
“I, would like to use this opportunity to urge the National Electoral Commission, political parties and the government to jointly work together so that the voters registration process to succeed’, he said.
Addressing the signing ceremony, National Electoral Commission chairperson Mr. Abdikadir Iman Warsame said, the “freeness” of elections speaks largely to the environment that prevails in the lead up to an election.
“As the Electoral Commission are committed to fulfill our role in making the voters registration process a success in all six regions of the country”, Mr. Abdikadir .
Hon Feisal Ali waraabe , the chairman of the Justice and welfare party “UCID” while speaking at the meeting said, “The Justice and welfare party “UCID” welcomed the agreement, although the law setting the quotas of the seats hasn’t being included.
Hon Mumin Saed , the Vice Chairman of WADDANI speaking during the function said, “We, as one of the official political parties once after signing this agreement means that we shall remain bound by the Code of Conduct in terms of law.
The ruling party “KULMIYE” Presidential hopeful Hon Muse Abdi also among the speakers said, “It’s the duty of every citizen to work together to achieve our national aspiration and also the the objects and goals of the Code of Conduct once the voters registration process begins, which means one must desist from using speech or from participating in actions which will have the effect of provoking either parties’ supporters or members of the general public to commit acts of intolerance or take other inflammatory actions
