His excellency the President of the Republic of Somaliland, Ahmed Mohamed Mohamoud “Siilaanyo”, presently on official tour in the republic of Ireland, today with the Director of the Glencree Centre for Peace and Reconciliation, Mr. William Devas and the Deputy Director Eamon Rafter.
During the meeting the two sides discussed issues related to peace building, conflict resolution, and how the Republic of Somaliland can contribute to these matters on an international scale.
The Glencree Centre acknowledged the impeccable record of Somaliland on peace building and sustenance of stability in a region that is best described as ‘volatile’ and ‘unpredictable’ and how this experience could benefit the outside world, including Somalia.
The Centre showed how genuinely interested on Somaliland and the reconciliation of its elements in a difficult post-war environment, and that it sincerely offered its felicitations on, not only on record on peace matters, but, also, on how Somaliland built on a remarkable progress on socio-economic development that sprung from its own needs.
The Somaliland delegation also met with the Director of Ireland’s Investment and Development Agency Ms Eileen Sharps. At the same meeting, too, the delegation held a cordial exchange of views with Mr. Gary Ford , Head of Enterprise Ireland, and Mr. Eain Ire.
The two sides discussed on how best to further develop and maintain cooperation on development initiatives in Somaliland.
With the president in both meetings were the RoS minister for the Presidency, Hersi Ali, Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mohamed Behi, Minister for Health, Dr, Suleiman Essa, President Advisor on International Organizations, Mr. Abdifattah Ismail, Somaliland Ambassador to the UK, Ali Awale, Somaliland Ambassador-at-Large, Kaisser Abdullahi, and the president’s personal aide, Ali Ahmed.
