The Mayor of Hargeisa Cllr Abdurrahman Mahmoud Aidiid “Solteco” has announced new plans to beautify the city at the same time placing a ban on the sell Khat a mild stimulant in the city center environs during council meeting held in the week.
Cllr Abdurrahman Mahmoud Aidiid “Solteco” unveiling the new measures said, “We shall now hence forth establish four locations in the fringes of the city for Khat traders to sell their merchandises because of the tonnes of rubbish left over in places where the commodity is sold the every day.
“The city of Hargeisa shall not allow traders dealing in petroleum not to store in flammable commodities outside their premises because they pose hazard to the community at large instead I strongly urge them to store the containers containing the flammable underground for safety”, the Mayor said.
“We began deploying solar paneled traffic lights in six major intersections in the city of Hargeisa on Thursday, this week, we need intelligent traffic solutions that improve both the safety and quality of life of the people who live here in the city”, he said.
Lastly the Mayor warned motorist to respect and adhere to follow traffic rules.
Solar traffic lights may be more costly in themselves, but the picture changes when one calculates the cost of traffic congestion in wasted petrol, productivity losses, road accidents, exhaust emissions, deployment of traffic officers to direct traffic.
