the President of The Republic of Somaliland, Ahmed Mohamed M. “Silanyo”, accompanied by certain cabinet ministers, members of parliament, mayor of Hargeisa and the head of Hargeisa Water Agency inspected the construction site of the Hargeisa Water Supply expansion project today.
Hargeisa Water Agency Manager Mr. Ibrahim Siyad Yonis briefed the president and flanked govt officials who embarked on inspection tour to the ongoing work which aims at expanding the old Hargeisa water supply system which is under a huge revamp. It is noteworthy that the president in his tour was accompanied by UN officials.
Later, Somaliland president concluded the inspection tour attended a grand breaking ceremony aimed at unveiling the second stage of the expansion of Hargeisa Water Supply System.
The president made the following speech:-
Ladies and Gentlemen, After salutation, I want to thank the people and the governments that assisted in this project include the EU, Germany, World Bank and those that are the sole donors to Somaliland Development Fund. These are Denmark, Norway and the Netherlands.
The president reiterated in his speech that his administration did all it could to provide enough water to its citizens specially in the capital where the project of expanding its water supply system was under expansion for the past years.
The president has announced that the project is going to be spent a large sum of money estimated to be around $ 50, 000.
The President has said that another project which aims at revamping Hargeisa water provision is underway which the UAE is implementing and hopes once this project is finalized then the water scarcity that the city is facing will come to an end.
