Somalia:Scores of people detained over Kismayo attacks

Huge search operations have been carried out in the coastal town of Kismayo, arresting dozens on suspicion of Al Shabaab agents on Monday after armed gunmen, thought to be the militants attacked on Juba Intelligence headquarters in the town.

Somalia’s interim Juba administrative forces detained scores of people mainly youths in connection with Al Shabaab militants, who carried out attacks on Juba Intelligence office in the town Sunday night, residents said.

A resident told Shabelle Media in Mogadishu that the all detainees were taken into police station for further interrogations relate the deadly attack on the headquarters, adding that the searches were made in via-Afmadow and other villages in Kismayo .

No official from the Juba administration commented on the operation and the exact numbers of people who were detained during the operation that launched by the Juba army.

The crackdown comes after unknown gunmen, believed to be Al Shabaab militants launched an assault on center of operation manned by interim Juba administrative forces.
