Somalia: President Farmaajo condoles with Kuwait on death of leader

Date:

President Mohamed Farmaajo has condoled with the people of Kuwait following the passing on of their leader.

“We have received with great sadness and sorrow the death of the late Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Emir of the State of Kuwait,” the president said in tweet.

The 91 ear old leader died Tuesday following unspecified illness. He had been flown to the US in July for treatment.

Dubbed the ‘dean of Arab Diplomacy’ Sheikh Shabab has been instrumental in forging his country’s foreign policy for about 50 years.

He also played a key mediator role during the Gulf war in 1991when Iraqi forces invaded Kuwait.

His 83-year-old half-brother, Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf al-Ahmed has since been picked by the cabinet to replace him.
