Former President Abdikasim Salad has called on politicians in the country to uphold rule of law and use the appropriate channels in case of disputes to avoid fueling conflicts in the country.
The former head of state who ruled the country between 2000 and 2004 said there were necessary channels through which disputes could be resolved.
The former President who spoke to the local media said it was not appropriate to issue threats in apparent response to the recent remarks by former president Sheikh Sharif.
“It is inappropriate for the former head of state to threaten the government. It there is any wrong committed, parliament is the right channel for accountability,” the former leader said.
Reacting to what he termed as attempts to block them from travelling to Beletweyne, Sheikh Shariff said in a press conference last week just like criminal elements including Al-Shabaab were driven from Mogadishu, the current government could face similar fate.
The government urged the opposition leader to ‘respect his status’ and desist from ‘remarks that could undermine his stature as former head of state.
