Somaliland’s National Election Commission (NEC) has officially declared Kulmiye’s candidate, as the winner of the presidential election in the just-concluded polls.
Muse Bihi was declared winner on Tuesday afternoon at the National Tallying Centre in Hargeisa with the main opposition party Wadani led Abdirahman Mohamed Irro protesting.
Bihi from the ruling party Kulmiye garnered 305,909 votes (55) defeating Wadani’s flagbear, Irro who got 226,092.
The commission also said the third candidate from UCID scored 23,141 which equivalent 4.17% which equivalent to votes cast 13th this month.
NEC chairman, Abdikadir Iman said that the conditions that had been set for the repeat poll were met and that the fresh election credible, free and fair.
“I am satisfied that we were able to meet these conditions set for the election, and I believe it was a free, fair and credible election,” said Mr Iman.
The international poll observers earlier said it had found no evidence to suggest last week’s election was manipulated or inaccurate, as the opposition had attested.
