The president of Somaliland, Ahmed Mohamed Silanyo, has arrived here on Friday to discuss ways of strengthening cooperation Ethiopia.
Silanyo, as part of his state visit, held discussions with Workineh Gebeyehu, Ethiopian Foreign Affairs Minister, on Friday. The delegation led by Silanyo is also expected to meet with Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn later the same day.
According to the Ethiopian Foreign Affairs Ministry, the president’s state visit to Ethiopia, among other things, envisages to create further collaboration among Somaliland and Ethiopia in various socio-economic arenas, which also aspires to heighten the people to people relationship among the two east African countries, who share the same language and culture.
Urging the need to scale up collective efforts in deepening the ties in areas untapped before, Silanyo, during his discussion with Gebeyehu on Friday, commended the Ethiopian government’s efforts for its “unwavering commitment in being accessible to the requests of Somaliland,” it was noted.
Gebeyehu on his part also expressed his country’s keen interest and readiness to work together with Somaliland in various areas.
As Somaliland is presently approaching towards its third presidential election to elect its new president, which is scheduled to take place on November 13, the Ethiopian government has been calling for free and fair election.
