A former minister who served as Telecommunications Minister under President Ahmed Mohamed Mohamoud Silanyo, announced his decision on Tuesday (Aug 15) to join Somaliland’s main opposition party, Waddani.
Ex-Minister Mohamed Jama Abgaal told Star TV that he decided to resign from Kulmiye because of the party’s campaign style.
“I would like to make it clear that I have left Somaliland’s ruling political party, Kulmiye, and that I am now a member of Waddani,”
“The main reason why I left the party is because of their reliance on the tribal system, and the fear that we won’t be able to defend ourselves if we get attacked by Somalia,” Abgaal said.
“We do not need tribalism in Somaliland. We do not need further division in Somaliland. We are electing a new President – we don’t need a President that will divide us,” Abgaal said.
“Majority of my supporters have already joined Waddani. Those who support me who haven’t joined Waddani yet – I hope you will support my calls to follow my steps,” Abgaal said.
