Dahabshiil Group of companies contributed handsomely to the on-going drought relief and recuperation efforts in Somaliland, once more.

According to the Minister of the Presidency of Somaliland, H.E. Mohamoud Hashi Abdi, reading out companies that have heavily pledged to planned recovery programmes to rahibilitate and re-stock pastoral herdsmen whose livestock had been decimated by a five-year-long drought in Somaliland, profusely thanked Dahabshiil Group for its liberal contribution.

The Minister, speaking at a ceremony held at the Somaliland presidential palace, attended by His Excellency Ahmed Mohamed Mohamoud ‘Siilaanyo, the President, members of the cabinet of ministers, the bi-cameral parliament and bynames in the country’s business sector, said the pledges were  in response to the president’s call to divert 18 May celebration costs to drought recovery efforts following the fall of plentiful rains in the country.

Dahabshiil Group, he said, underwrote $200,000-worth of the envisaged costs.

In an earlier occasion at the president itself during the height of the devastating drought, the Group led contribution to relief and emergency efforts with another US$200,000, followed by individual cash and transport contributions to regions in the far south of Somalia, and to other regions in Somaliland and Puntland.

On a similar – but separate vein, the Group contributed US$5000 to the health committee in Buuhoodle district to help out with supplies and facilities in the combat of a diarrhoea breakout in the area. This also followed other heftier contributions to the region going towards infrastructure or other social welfare schemes.

In total, the Group’s donations to drought relief, drought recovery or other socially beneficial programmes in Somali-inhabited areas top the US$million mark within the past 6-8 months.
