Mohamed Mohamoud Yasin, a member of Somaliland’s Guurti, the upper house of parliament, called for full Sharia law on Tuesday during a parliamentary session.
“On the agenda is an issue that many of my fellow colleagues support: the implementation of full sharia law and allowing it to play a dominant role in our nation’s legal system,” Yasin said
After the suggestion was made, Guurti members moved on with their agenda and did not discuss the issue further.
Sharia law is not dominant in Somaliland but plays a significant role in many areas such as murder, marriage and land/property matters.
