Today, at his office at the Presidential Palace, His Excellency the President of the Republic of Somaliland, Ahmed Mohamed Mohamoud Siilaanyo, received a delegation representing OCHA and ECHO and another from Sweden, led by a prominent Swedish MP.

The first was led by Justin Brady of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) and including Mr. Yohan of ECHO.

At the meeting, the President again highlighted how desperate the situation was for drought affected families in Somaliland and how precious time was running out for them by the minute.

The President pointed out efforts that his government and the general public have mounted to combat the devastating effect of the disaster, underlining the UN and other international agencies were yet to appear to help out.

On his part, Mr. Brady, acknowledged the part expected of the international community to play in the face of the looming drought and how they were going to respond.

In the second, His Excellency received another delegation led by Swedish MP Arhe Hamednaca, including members the Somaliland Recognition Committee in Sweden (SRCS).

The delegation included Mohamed Yussuf, SRCS Chairman, and Samir Dualeh, the Committee’s secretary general.

This second delegation was invited to the country through the outgoing Somaliland Ambassador Ms Rhoda Elmi, who also arranged the meeting with the President and members of the Cabinet of ministers.

Mr. Hamednaca is one of the most stalwart supporters of the right to sovereignty and international recognition of the Republic of Somaliland in the Swedish parliament and Europe.
