Hon Mohamed Farah Adare, Somaliland Minister of Justice and Custodial Affairs today speaking to reporters in his office today announced that a prisoner hanged himself inside a prison facility in the port town of Berbera.
The Justice Minister while speaking to ruled out foul play and believe the death was likely a suicide because of how deceased was found. He died of asphyxiation and was found partially hanging from a bar in his cell, per the witness report.
“It’s still too early to go into the full details regarding the death of the prisoner as investigations are still ongoing, he stated.
Hon Mohamed Farah Adare further added, “Since the current government came to power, the Ministry of Justice and Custodial Affairs has been responsible for improving conditions in our jails and as well as assessing, planning, and implementing approved plans and rules concerning human rights in prisons and detention centers.
