The Somaliland Cheif of Supreme and Constitutional Court Prof. Aden Hagi Ali highlighted that there is a link between the unemployment and the engagement of youth in illegal criminal activities, as he urged the formation of a national policy on creating employment opportunities.
“Governments are not required to recruit all the people in the country, as they can’t. But they are required to establish a platform that will help the increment in opportunities for productive employment in country’s private sectors. As there is a relationship between unemployment and the engagement by the youth in modern and serious illegal crimes which becomes a major social concern,” Said Prof. Ali.
He added, “In Somaliland, the Unemployment rates are quite high especially among the youth. Hence it resulted from despondency and desperation; as such we need to have a national employment policy which can be a solution as this policy leads that for the private Companies to create more employment opportunities for the youth.”
The Somaliland Cheif of Supreme as well Constitutional Court stated this in a hand-over ceremony where he gave advice and recommendations on the need for a prompt review for the rights of both public and private employees to the new Chairman of Somaliland Civil Servant Institution Sharmarke Gelle.
Prof. Ali meanwhile noted that private Company employees need to have further protection and that generally, the rights of both public and private workers need to be reviewed.
“Currently, those who work at private companies can’t even make a complaint, as they are well aware that they could be easily dismissed if they do so. This is the responsibility of the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs. Such injustice needs to be immediately addressed, so for the justice and equality to prevail,” President of the Supreme Court added.
