15 al-Shabaab militants were killed during military operations in Central Somalia, government representatives said on Wednesday.
“Members of Somalia Special Forces carried out a raid in Geed Timir Village of Galgaduud province on Tuesday night with no support from anyone. Fifteen al-Shabaab terrorists were killed in the operation.’’ said the mayor of Gal’ad district.
The targeted militants were involved in several terrorist attacks, including landmine blasts and ambushes against security forces, he added.
Al-Shabaab has not commented regarding the report so far.
Somali Special Forces have stepped up night raids to counter the insurgency activities of the militant group in Central and Southern Somalia.
The latest operation comes a day after the al-Qaeda-linked extremist group claimed to have repelled an attack from American Commandos in a small town close to the capital.
