H.E President Ahmed Mohamed Mahmoud Silanyo today in the Emirates of Dubai , UAE meet with Sheik Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum GBE, the Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates, and Emir of Dubai.
During the meeting between Sheik Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum GBE and H.E President Ahmed Mohamed Mahmoud Silanyo took place at Al-qasar Hotel , the SL Head of State where and his entourage are currently staying centered on how the two countries discussed ways in which to strengthen existing cordial and to expand long-standing economic and security partnership.
At the same time Somaliland Foreign Minister Dr. Saad Ali Shire and Mr. Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, the Chairman of Dubai World together with UAE Government representatives signed a historic agreement in which the covers a wide range of sectors vital to the development of Somaliland economy such as the development of the Berbera corridor in form of upgrading and renovating the road which links Somaliland, Ethiopia and other Eastern African countries, improvement of customs facilities and finally the possible construction of a railway link; The future of Somaliland plays probably along this road between Berbera and Addis Ababa.
Also included in the historic agreement, the role of Dubai World as the sole Somaliland partner tasked with developing, expanding and managing the strategic port of Berbera.
On the other hand, the two sides agreed to enhance close cooperation in the areas of Trade, Investment, agriculture, Energy, Tourism and the construction of a Five Star Hotel in the port town of Berbera not to mention the in supporting and funding of the reconstructed civil service commission and civil service institute (CSI) and enhancing capacity building on training development among the different sectors of government institutions and improving good governance.
The historical agreement between the two brotherly nations expects to take foothold soon rather than later and most importantly will improve the livelihoods of all Somaliland citizens’ across the wider spectrum.
A high SL ministerial delegation and the managing director of the port of Berbera will return to the country tomorrow ahead of the Presidential entourage, soon after their arrival they shall hold a press conference in which they shall fully brief fellow countrymen on the details of historical agreement between the two brotherly nations.
