The National Electoral Commission commissioners today speaking during a press conference held at the commission headquarters declared that they have concluded the first phase of the voters registration exercise currently ongoing in Maroodi Jeh region and at the same time urged the members of the public to turn up in their numbers register as voters.
Mr. Abdikadir Iman, the chairman of the National Electoral Commission speaking during the press briefing said, “I would like to use this opportunity to urge Maroodi Jeh residents to participate in the ongoing voter’s registration exercise which will go on for the next seven days.
“It’s the right, responsibility and most importantly the duty of every Somaliland citizen to register as voter, when we talk about our democracy; we typically emphasize on the importance of the right to vote’, he said.
The chairman of the National Electoral Commission further stated, “During the first phase of the voters registration exercise, we recorded a low turnout at designated registration centers across Maroodi Jeh hence my appeal to fellow citizens to come and register as voter during the second phase voter’s registration exercise which will go on for the next seven days.
On the other hand, I would like to announce that National Electoral Commission has concluded voter’s registration exercise in 102 registration centers located in several districts of Maroodi Jeh region Cadaaley, Dacarbuduq, Dar Salaam, Sabo Wanaag , Faroweyne and Salahley with exception of Hargeisa district where registration exercise will go on for the next seven days.
Lastly, the National Electoral Commission hasn’t received the list of names of candidates endorsed by the various political organizations, so the law prohibits would be political hopefuls from erecting posters announcing the candidature until such a time when its appropriate do so hence our appeal to the Mayor of Hargeisa to take down such posters.
