Somaliland, the land of Camels and Milk, you will fall in love with this place as soon as your plane touchdown, it will happens without you realizing it. The first thing you will notice is how humble, kind and friendly are the people of Somaliland.
Somalilanders are very proud of what they accomplish while Somalia in slipped in anarchy. They will welcome you with open arms but they will not allow for anyone to tarnish their accomplishment of what they achieved in the last 24 years.
The dilemma is how oblivious Somalilanders are to what is happening around them and how the system that is suppose to protect them and help them is taking advantage of them, For example lets us look at the Health care system first before we go down to other things.
The health care system today in this country is mostly privatized, basically it’s get rich scheme taking advantage of innocent poor people who are already deprive and without alternative. Just driving around Hargeisa the capital city of Somaliland you will notice how many Clinics and Pharmacies are around in every corner and more appear every day.
The lack of a strict regulation resulted in a poor service and expensive fee’s for a service that sometimes contribute to a unnecessary suffering death and hardship to a lot of innocent folks by incompetence physicians that misdiagnose patients and pharmacies that prescribe the wrong medications that will result in overdose and death in some cases. When a doctor’s diagnosis error leads to incorrect treatment, delayed treatment, or no treatment at all, a patient’s condition can be made much worse, and they may even die. That is why we need a strict regulation to protect the public from these circumstances.
Performing unnecessary tests and surgeries are common, C Sections for women that are giving birth increased 90% the last 5 years it’s simply more money for the provider to perform these procedures. Some of these Health care providers are build with charity money from foreign donors and are suppose to help people who cannot afford to pay for health care but what I found out is that the charity Hospitals and clinics are the most expensive health care providers to name few such as Adna Adam Hospital for women and IHI International Hargeisa Hospital.
It’s unethical system that require the patient’s to Pay first or Die rather than receiving medical attention first, the Hospitals will not provide a life saving medication unless payment for the medications are received.
It’s a lucrative business that will make you rich very quickly, charge whatever you desire and provide shitty service and no liability what so ever. There are no vigorous background check on physician and pharmacist. With fake credentials anyone can become a Physician, of course there are good physicians that took the oath at the time of being admitted as a member of the medical profession and also abide by it.

This is The Oath of a Muslim Physician
Praise be to Allah (God), the Teacher, the Unique, Majesty of the heavens, the Exalted, the Glorious, Glory be to Him, the Eternal Being Who created the Universe and all the creatures within, and the only Being Who contained the infinity and the eternity. We serve no other god besides Thee and regard idolatry as an abominable injustice.
Give us the strength to be truthful, honest, modest, merciful and objective.
Give us the fortitude to admit our mistakes, to amend our ways and to forgive the wrongs of others.
Give us the wisdom to comfort and counsel all towards peace and harmony.
Give us the understanding that ours is a profession sacred that deals with your most precious gifts of life and intellect.
Therefore, make us worthy of this favored station with honor, dignity and piety so that we may devote our lives in serving mankind, poor or rich, literate or illiterate, Muslim or non-Muslim, black or white with patience and tolerance with virtue and reverence, with knowledge and vigilance, with Thy love in our hearts and compassion for Thy servants, Thy most precious creation.
Hereby we take this oath in Thy name, the Creator of all the Heavens and the earth and follow Thy counsel as Thou has revealed to Prophet Mohammad (pbuh).
“Whoever killed a human being, not in lieu of another human being nor because of mischief on earth, it is as if he had killed all mankind. And if he save a human life, he had saved the life of all mankind.” (Qur’an V/35)
There are many undocumented cases of people that vehemently complaints about the services but there is no one to protect you from these blood suckers, not your government or you elected MP, so how can you protect yourself from immoral health care providers and to whom will you complain to, well the answer is no one, the truth is you can’t enter or meet officials at the Ministry of Health building without being stop by armed guard, most Ministries in Somaliland will not allow any public access.
You must show your anger by mobilizing and protesting in a peaceful manner to achieve your goal it’s our duty to protest and change the system that is abusing us, by doing noting things will only get worst and worst so please get up and stand up for your rights. Together we can move mountains.
To our officials I wish they focus on the real issue that are effecting the Somalilanders daily live instead of quarrelling of nonsense issues and wasting our resources.
My Allah Help us all.
Thank You
M Ghalib Musa
