Somalia: Mogadishu airport manager sacked

In a move to step up safety and security measures at the airport, Somali government has appointed a new manager at the Mogadishu’s Aden Adde international airport

General Abdi Ashkir Jama was appointed in a decree from the office of Prime Minister Omar Abdirashid Ali, sources confirmed.

The move has been made in an effort to tighten the security at the airport following the Daallo airlines incident last month which exposed major security lapses.

Somalia President Hassan Sheikh Mohamoud met senior officers at the airport over the weekend and discussed ways to enhance the security measures.

Mr Mohamoud added that besides the tightening of the level of security, new development projects will be implements at the airport.

A new police station is being built at the airport.
