At least one civilian was killed and two others injured in a hand bomb attack at a restaurant in a town in southern Somalia’s Gedo region Thursday night, officials said on Friday.
Government officials in Garbaharey town said Al-Qaida linked group Al-Shabaab militants hurled the hand bomb on a bar and restaurant in the town, killing one woman and two others.
“A woman who was selling tea was killed on the spot; two others were also injured. The security forces conducted operation thereafter, but no arrest has been made,” Nor Mohamed, a local government administrator told Xinhua by phone.
Somali National Army backed by the African Union peacekeeping troops flushed out the Al-Shabaab militants from Garbaharey town three years ago, but the militants have been return to the town to carry out attacks, worsening the humanitarian situation there.
