Somaliland: Ethio-Somaliland Sign MOU to boost trade and Security ties

Somaliland and Ethiopia signed a Memorandum Of Understanding (MoUs) for promoting trade, consolidating security, health and education sectors.

The MOU signing ceremony took place in Berbera where a delegation from both countries had held consultative meeting.

Somaliland government said the agreement also seeks to foster mutually beneficial relations and stimulate private sector interest and other forms of economic activity in the respective countries.

Ethiopian delegation will be in Somaliland for about a week conducting a study tour on to the port of Berbera and was in attendance during the laying the foundation stone of the Berbera Corridor which is vital for Ethio-Somaliland trade route.

Trade Advocacy Fund, a UK aid has facilitated the talks between technical committees of both countries during the talks which the two countries held serious discussions on mutual issues.

The MoU envisages enhancing trade and security ties between the two neighboring countries of Ethiopia and Somaliland.

Ethiopia, a landlocked country in the Horn of Africa with a population of 90 million is mainly dependent on Djibouti and South Sudan ports for import and export.

 

The MOU was signed by the Director General of Somaliland ministry of foreign affairs while ambassador who is in charge the consulate in Hargeisa signs for Ethiopia.
