First Somaliland Fish Expo commences in the port town of Berbera on Monday. Somaliland’s vice president Hon. Abdirahman Saylici, the ministry of fishery officials, fish firms were in attendance.
A ministerial level delegation led by the commerce minister of Somali regional administration has joined the attendees delegates. The fish expo gives Somaliland fish industry to showcase its diverse fish resources that are available in Somaliland. The minister of fishery has revealed that Ethiopia exports large amounts of Khat which in return earns much money. The minister has stated that Fish imports to Ethiopia is quite difficult for the traders.
He appealed the Somali regional delegates from Ethiopia to do all they can to let Somaliland fish traders to import fish resources to Ethiopian markets. It is noteworthy that the minister for agriculture has announced that plans underway to use fish to fight against mosquito. He added that mosquito does not breed in areas where fish live.
