Minister of Health, Suleiman Isse Ahmed has submitted an official written letter addressed to UNICEF suspending all health projects that the agency used to support with the ministry of health.
The ministry of health director general has written the letter in response to the request made by the minister.
A row is reported to have erupted concerning the implimentation of “joint help and nutrition programme” JHNP which DIFID, USAID, SIDA and Australian AID funded the project.
It is said that the provinces that were about to benefit the project are Awdal, Togder and Sanaag.
It is reported that UNICEF has come up with new plan to manage the funds which angered the minister of health and made clear that the ministry of health should adminster the funds earmarked for JHNP.
UNICEF sent audit officials to investigate into the ministries that are part of the JHNP project but the ministry of health turned down the investigation.
UNICEF cited that it cannot trust when it comes to transparency and accountibility pertaining to funds that are allocated for the JHNP in which the ministry of health was part of it.
It is said that UNICEF has sent a compliant to the United Nations and it is expected that a delegation will arrive in Somaliland in order to hold talks with President Ahmed Silanyo over the issue.
JHNP has kicked off parts of Sanaag region but it was later postponed due to the standoff between UNICEF and the ministry of health.
