Somaliland President Ahmed Mohamed Mohamud Silanyo on Tuesday met the EU Special Envoy and ambassador to Somalia/Somaliland Michele Cervone d’Urso, after he paid a visit to the Hargeisa.
Ministers of Foreign Affairs Minister, Dr. Sa’ad Ali Shire, Presidential affairs minister, Mohamoud Hashi Abdi, Home Affairs Minister, Ali Mohamed Waran Adde, president’s special secretary and Press secretary were in attendance at the talks which took place at the presidential compound.
Once the talks between the pesident and the EU envoy, Somaliland’s Foreign Affairs Minister Dr. Sa’ad Ali Shire spoke to the press by informing the press that the EU envoy arrives in Hargeisa.
Mr. Sa’ad has said that the talks focused on the 2017 elections which the EU contributes the fund and that the ties between Somaliland and the EU to strengthen.
The two sides reached a common understanding that the EU should accomplish the projects that they are carrying out in the country.
EU envoy speaking to the press has thanked the minister Dr. Sa’ad.
Mr. Michele Cervone d’Urso has admitted that he received warm and cordial reception both from the president and the gov’t ministers.
He said that it is great to be back here in Hargeisa. He confirmed that he touched on two key issues on the discussion with Somaliland president and added that the EU promised to continue the support of the democractic process.
He further went on to say that it is the commitment of the EU to contribute to the election process in 2017.
He stated that it is the responsibility of the gov’t and the National Election Commission to make the election happen.
He cited that he discussed the EU patnership with Somaliland gov’t and added that the discussion touched on the security cooperation, Berbera Corridoor.
He said that it is agreed to enhance maritime security, migration and the support of refugees.
He admitted that the talks were fruitful and added that once again they have underscored the stability and democratic process in Somaliland.
