The African Union troops in Somalia have killed six members of one family at their home in a part of Southern Somalia, following a landmine attack on its convoy, residents have said.
According to local resident who spoke to the media, Ugandan troops who are part of the African Union troops entered the home of the family members on Friday night, after a roadside bomb hit one of their vehicles.
The incident took place in the port town of Merka, which is some 70km (45 miles) south of the capital, Mogadishu.
‘’AMISOM troops entered the house violently and started to shoot indiscriminately,’’ said one of the witnesses.
At the time of the incident, reports have said that there was an on-going wedding in the house.
It is the second time AMISOM troops have killed civilians in the same town, in less than two weeks.
AMISOM said on its twitter account they were investigating the claims of civilian deaths. ‘’If any such incident occurs AMISOM will investigate all allegations of indiscriminate actions & take disciplinary action where appropriate.’’
Somalia’s Federal government has not also issued any statement on the latest atrocity committed by the African Union Peacekeepers.
