A two days conference jointly hosted by the opposition parties of UCID and Wadani is ongoing.
Bringing together a large number of the two party’s supporters the conference has the objective of assessing prevalent status in the country and coming up with recommendations.
Various UCID and Wadani party functionaries who addressed the meeting reiterated not only commitment to adherence with Somaliland constitutional and legal dictates but pursue deliberations in a manner geared towards ensuring the country’s sovereignty and well-being remains steadfast.
The conference organizing committee pooled from luminaries of the two political entities thanked the constitutional court for its recent ruling on the rights of opposition political parties to hold meetings anywhere in the country.
UCID and Wadani party bosses follow conference proceedingsAccording to the chairman of the Opposition parties alliance conference organizing committee Abdirashid Hasan Matan items in the agenda for deliberations during the two days national situational assessment include the economy and inflation, Constitution, national institutions (Executive, Legislative & Judiciary), Quest for recognition, Security and the Democratization process with emphasis on elections.
Conspicuously absent from the main table is the National Rectification and Reconciliation Forum-NR&RF that brings together senior citizens from a diversified political persuasion and major proponents of a national dialogue fronted by the opposition.
Though NR&RF personalities like its chair Hasan Isse Jama were in attendance the noticeable absence at the forefront of the conference is related to the landmark Constitutional court ruling of 23rd July which overturned a government order banning meetings by the opposition parties of UCID and Wadani , termed by the court as right granted by the constitution while retaining the ban against any national dialogue forum proposed and to have been organized by Wadani-UCID-NR&RF political alliance.
Wadani and UCID party presidential aspirants turned alliesThe Opposition Parties Situational Assessment Conference was officially opened by the UCID party boss Eng Feisal Ali Warabe and his Wadani counterpart Abdirahman Abdilahi Irro.
