Kenyan Deputy President Mr. William Rutto has said that his government is utilizing diplomatic ties to import Khat to Somaliland markets.
Rutto made the remarks after attending an investment Forum held at MERU county on June 25, 2015.
Meru Governor, Peter Munya who also made a speech at the forum has asked the government of Kenya to do all it can to establish trade ties with SL so that Khat grown in Meru be exported to SL markets.
Mr. Munya has stated that there are fertile markets out there in SL which will be significant for the consumption of Khat.
DP William Rutto has responded that the government will reach to Somaliland authorities in order that Khat grown in Kenya set to be exported to Somaliland.
Kenya tried on number of times to officially open a consulate office in Somaliland.
Somaliland is a broke away state from Somalia in 1991 but it has not gained international recognition from countries in the world since 1991.
Somaliland has an office which is up and running in Nairobi.
