The Somaliland ministry of education has kicked-off final year schools examination nationwide.
According to education minister Prof Farah Elmi Gedoole the final school examinations for the year 2014/2015 are underway in all learning institutions in the country that had registered candidates for class eight and form four certificates.
“this year 23,300 students are sitting the final examinations in both primary and secondary level certificates” said Prof Gedoole in Hargeisa where he was inspecting on goings in city based schools in company of the director of examinations Daud Gadhwein and other ministerial officials.
Revealing that the surge in number of girls seeking school leaving certificates in both primary and secondary levels attained over the past four years prevails with almost 48% of the 23,400 being female, the Director of examinations Daud Gadhwein said that hopefully they shall dominate the top ten positions in both levels nationwide.
On specific figures from the 23,300 total Gadhwein informed that 14,000 pupils are sitting for class eight exams while 9.300 are seeking “O” levels certification for the examinations ends on Thursday this week.
This is the first nationwide educational exercise for the minister Prof Farah Elmi Gedoole who took over the portfolio upon transfer from earlier perch at the Agriculture docket as replacement of the most successful education minister in Somaliland Ms. ZamZam Abdi Aden who is currently at the finance ministry.
Last year 7779 students sat their final form four examinations while class eight had 13320 pupils seeking qualifications to join secondary school. With 2014 having 21099 candidates in both levels compared to current one of 23,300 results in an increase of 2201.
