Somaliland’s ruling party, Kulmiye has warned against a Facebook imposter impersonating the party’s chairman Muse Bihi Abdi.
Kulmiye leader is the latest victim of online impostors who prey on public figures to create pseudo social media accounts.
According to a press statement released by the party’s media coordinator Mr. Mustafe Iid Mohamed has denied the existence of a Facebook page run by Kulmiye chairman, Mr. Muse Bihi Abdi.
“The chairman of Kulmiye Musa Behi Abdi does not maintain a Facebook account thus any and all information posted on a page on the social media platform in his name are false and of malicious intent,” the statement said.
The statement also warned those involved in the Name of the Kulmiye chair to cease immediately in lieu of legal charges once discovered.
Impersonation is a new thing that is becoming quite rampant on social media where strangers create fake profiles and use them to trick fans into believing they are celebrities or public figures. Many public figures has fallen victim to this. Kulmiye leader Muse Bihi Abdi is the most recent victim of this act of social media impersonation.
On October last year National police Commissioner Brigadier Abdilahi Fadal Iman have warned the public against the activities of fraudsters who operate with Facebook accounts created with his name.
