Ambassador Nicholas Kay, the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General and Head of UN Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM) made an unthoughtful remark on the decision that the Republic of Somalilnad’s House of Elders (Guurti) reached on extension of term on current tenures of government and the parliament.
Ambassador Kay forgot that Somaliland affairs concerned Somalilanders, first. Secondly, that an additional 4 months to the term agreed upon by Kulmiye and UCID did not warrant the fuss he and the EU envoy, d’Urso, were making to egg on political militants in Somaliland to greater follies.
Deeply concerned by move to postpone #Somaliland elections by 22 months. Urge reconsideration. Time to set a positive example for democracy

The Ambassador’s comment above started a barrage of tweets that, if analyzed properly, tells the world that Somaliland was never short of patriots to come to its defense at all times. Not only do the tweets send a clear, unmistakable message to Kay, but they flag Somalilanders’ popular view on the extension of term made and their proud ownership of Somaliland’s right as a sovereign nation.

@Somalia111 your being wasteful with your time by speaking on matters regarding Somaliland. You need to focus on vision2016 not on Somaliland

@Somalia111 whether it happens this year or 2017, its a matter of Somalilanders to decide, stay out of it

@Somalia111 am deeply disspointed by your constant interference on matters that are taking place in somaliland.I find your opinions absurd.

@Somalia111 I think you shouldn't interfere SL's affairs. If all parties agreed on the extension date, who are you to have a say in it?

@Somalia111 No need to reconsider – best move for the Republic of #Somaliland. Free & fair 2017 elxn over a rushed & disastrous 2016 elxn!
