Kenya: The Canadian government has released Sh113 million to civil society groups in the last three years. The Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI), a non-governmental organisation based in Kenya, Uganda and Somalia, has mainly funded projects on human rights, governance, democracy, security and other social development issues.
Speaking at the CFLI partners forum in Nairobi last week, Canadian High Commission’s Political Counsellor James Christoff said the support through CFLI demonstrated Canada’s commitment to collaborate with the civil society to advance democracy and human rights across the world. The Nairobi-based Lusaka Agreement Task Force is among the beneficiaries of CFLI. Recently, it received Sh1,809,012 for strengthening law enforcement capacity in the fight against organised wildlife crime in Kenya and Uganda.
