DJIBOUTI CITY, Djiboutian President Ismail Omar Guelleh on Sunday discussed means of combatting Al-Shabaab andBoko Harammilitant groups with Ismail Chergui, the African Union’s (A.U.) commissioner for peace and security, during a meeting in capital Djibouti City.

“President Guelleh asserted to the African commissioner that Djibouti will continue to support the A.U’s efforts which aim at achieving peace and security in Africa,” Presidential Chief-of-Staff Naguib Ali Taher told The Anadolu Agency.

Taher added that Chergui briefed President Guelleh on the pan-African body’s efforts in combatting Boko Haram and Al-Shabaab, the latter of which is based in next-door Somalia.

Al-Shabaab, which is affiliated with Al-Qaeda, has continued to stage attacks against government forces and African peacekeepers in fractious Somalia.

Nigeria – where Boko Haram remains largely active – has upped the game against the militant group in recent weeks with troops reclaiming towns and villages earlier captured by the insurgents.
