Somaliland: Elections has to be held such that tranquility may prevail, says the President

He hails wisdom of Erigavo traditional elders for their leadership in maintaining peaceful stability in the area

The President of the Republic of Somaliland H.E. Musa Bihi Abdi has hailed the residents of Erigavo as being a community living in harmonious settings owing to righteous traditional elders’ cultural leadership.

He said that elections ought to be held as stipulated such that peaceful tranquility may prevail and be safeguarded hence developmental progresses achieved.

He said that the peaceful tranquility cherished in the area was worth being emulated and suggested that they help impart the tradition to the rest of the country.

The Head of State likewise thanked the residents for according him and his entourage a sincere heartwarming reception that brought masses lining the streets to welcome him.

The President is in the second week of a meet-the-people tour in the eastern parts of the country. He described the reception as emotionally happy given the tumultuous nature depicted unseen in the rest of places he has recently visited.

In his address to the multitude of crowds, the present noted that development, good health and associated social progress were always realized in areas with tranquility and harmonious settings.

He once more reiterated the holding of the forthcoming elections duly as scheduled.

The elections are almost three months away.

He said that his main focus is on advancing, safeguarding and maintaining unity, solidarity and peaceful co-existence across the nation.

Despite the fact that the elections are a constitutional mandate, the President said that it ought to be held because it advances cohesion and solidifies unity.

He said. “We are holding the election so that there may be tranquility and such that progressive development may be realized”.

He observed that wherever Somalis resided there were upheavals apart from the residents of Erigavo, a fact he attributed to the wisdom of the elders of the area that he said surpassed those of elsewhere.

He thanked the elders of Erigavo for their pragmatism and foresight.

The president reminded the people of Erigabao that they were lucky to have elders and traditional leaders, may God grant peace, and called on them to do their best not to be disturbed by foreigners. He thanked the traditional leaders of the city for their efforts.

He emphasized that the elections would be held timely and hopefully without incidences.
